The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program is now officially live, and homeowners in Adelaide can save up to 30% off the cost of installing a new solar battery. If you’ve been thinking about adding storage to your solar system, now is the perfect time.
With the rebate after STC trading and processing costs, save around $350 per kWh of usable battery capacity, eligible homeowners can save around $4,700 on a typical 13.5 kWh Tesla Powerwall 3 or BYD 13.8 kWh battery setup.
How the Battery Rebate Works
- Available now for batteries installed from today, but not turned on until 1 July 2025 onwards
- Applies to VPP-ready batteries between 5kWh – 50kWh usable capacity
- Uncapped program – available to homeowners, small businesses, and community facilities
- Must be installed by SAA-accredited installers (like Goliath Solar & Electrical)

Who’s Eligible?
To qualify for the rebate:
- Your battery must be VPP-capable (but you don’t have to join one)
- Installed alongside new or existing solar panels
- System must be 5kWh to 50kWh usable capacity (up to 100kWh total allowed)
- Must be a CEC-approved battery
